Located in historic downtown Geneva, Illinois, The Sugar Path is a boutique bakery specializing in vintage desserts with an innovative flair.
The Sugar Path is owned by two sisters, Michelle and Nina. Growing up in a small Midwestern town surrounded by cornfields we were fortunate to be raised in a large extended family with our Grandparents close by. Our Grandfather had served his country in the Armed Services for over 40 years and fought in World War II. When he retired he decided to take on the project of becoming a "gardener" but in reality turned his piece of land on this Earth into an oasis of vegetable gardens, fruit orchards and a miniature Garden of Eden. We grew up Farm to Table learning the trade. We remember climbing a ladder when we were very young to pick cherries off the tree and bring them inside where our Italian Grandmother sat us on the counter and taught us how to roll pie crust, but then allowed us to experiment with the extra dough to make whatever we would like. We lived the meaning of Food is Love and this amazing experience would form the people we became in life and the type of business we run today.
Although we went on to follow other career paths, after having children and working those careers we decided to follow the tug of our genetics. Food is a part of who we are and wanting to own and operate a food business, we created our beloved Sugar Path.
Our grandparents, Mary and Don, are no longer physically with us but they are always in spirit. The bluebird in our logo is a reminder of our Grandmother's favorite bird. She always gave as gifts to her grandchildren a small glass Bluebird of Happiness for good luck and to remind us the important things in life: Family and Happiness.
As children, some of the best memories of our life were the times we celebrated with dessert. We remember running across the street to Grandma's house after school knowing she always had a cake in her refrigerator. Every birthday involved a family gathering on a Sunday with a homemade cake studded with candles. At Christmas our grandparents made the drive into downtown Chicago to purchase our family favorite Maple cake.
"The smell of Maple reminds me of our traditional Maple cake at Christmas and in turn, I immediately remember my Grandmother and all the family gathered around. These are the most cherished memories of my life."
We started The Sugar Path because we love food; because we know that traditions can be centered around a family table and special food; and because we want to add value in this world by helping to create beautiful memories such as those we have been blessed to have.
Growing up farm to table taught us that when you cook or bake, what matters most is not your recipe, but your ingredients. Picking fresh fruit off the tree and bringing it inside to immediately turn it into pie taught us the value of baking with the seasons. When we started our bakery it was natural for us to base our business on the following values and goals:
- Bake with the seasons
- Bake fresh daily in small batches
- Use the best quality ingredients
- Deliver the best customer service and personal experience
- Help people create memories to last a lifetime
We LOVE creating memorable dessert---for instance, what's not memorable about a Snicker's Cake?
The Sugar Path started as a farmer's market stand and grew to its current location. We bake fresh daily in small batches and source locally as much as possible. We purchase from farmers and small business owners we know. We are passionate about helping artisans and small businesses thrive.
When we built our bakeshop we knew we wanted the seating area to feel comfortable, as if you were sitting and eating dessert at your Grandma's table. We crafted our tables from reclaimed wood, sourced our fixtures locally and many a night climbed a ladder to paint the walls. Our bakeshop is a labor of love.
We invite you to visit us in historic downtown Geneva, IL. Enjoy one of our vintage desserts while sitting in our bakery on State Street. We serve our desserts with locally roasted coffee and organic teas.
Our team is passionate about what we do and your enjoyment of our desserts. We look forward to becoming a part of your dessert memories. Remember to share them with us by using #thesugarpath on Social Media.
So welcome to our little shop, pull up a chair and enjoy some memories. . .
